Home is Where the Heart Is

Y’all!  I’m actually talking to you from California! So, I have so much I want to update you guys on!  First of all, I want to thank you for always sending me love.  The emails and messages I receive are always so inspiring to me.  I have every intention of replying to you!  I do.  But it’s been so hard to keep up lately.  We’ve kinda had a lot going on.😁 If you don’t already know…our family moved from Texas to California! Some of you may already know, some of you maybe like whaaaa?? It’s okay.  I never really announced it, so you didn’t miss anything major!  A couple of months ago we just kind of  made the decision to make the move.  It happened kind of fast, I’ll admit.  And believe me y’all…that is SO UNLIKE us!  I’m normally such a planner and a thinker and definitely not spontaneous! I’m normally pretty scared of change, but…something inside us told us that it was the right thing to do.  Honestly, as much as Zach and the boys spend time in LA, it just made sense to be there full time.  We noticed that trips back home were getting way less and well, we just couldn’t deal.  LOL.  When  we thought about it, it kind of became a no-brainer.  We always said that we wouldn’t split up our family – that we would do everything we could to stay together. So, here we are.  We conquered my fear of change, got over it, and now are loving it.  LOVING.  IT.  I mean, if you have to move…California really isn’t a bad place to be.  Hello, SUNSHINE AND GORGEOUS WEATHER!☀️

It was hard at first. The thought of it was hard.  We downsized quite a bit, but we are actually enjoying it!  It was actually quite therapeutic to declutter our household and now have a cozy home filled with only the things we love.  The hardest part was getting rid of things that we had h ung on to.  We accumulated so many things that honestly, we really didn’t need.  I also was a keeper of EVERYTHING.  I mean…it’s normal to keep the kids’ old spelling tests from first grade, right?!  LOL.  Yep, I did.  I even kept old science fair projects.  And every uniform they ever wore for any sport they ever played.  Including their shoes.  JUST KIDDING! I didn’t keep their old shoes!  HAHA I’m not that crazy. 🙄 But really, we spent some time in the last few months really thinking about what is important to our family.  In the end, we knew that it’s all about being together as a family.  Home is wherever we’re all together – where the heart is. Plus change can be good.  Sometimes a change of lifestyle is just what is needed.  It’s pretty hard not to be active here.  We get outside and do things just about everyday here.  Some of my favorite things to do? Um…paddle boarding, riding bikes to the beach, swimming, playing tennis, there’s just so much!

Y’all, I’m about to get deep here.  Sorry.  But, I feel like there is inspiration all around me.  I feel more productive just being here.  I am currently sitting here with my cup of coffee, lounging on my patio talking to you!  (well, it feels like I’m talking to you :)) I look out at all the gorgeous scenery around me and immediately think about more things to write about.  I have visions for this blog.  I not only want it to be a place for my thoughts, but I’d love for it to grow into much more.  I’m thinking product reviews, my fave products, style, book club/book reviews, advice, etc… Maybe even a featured section where I can highlight some of YOUR writings!?? Cute short stories, or poems? Some of you are amazingly, talented writers! What do you think?  What do you want to see?? Can y’all comment or email me some ideas?  I’d love to hear them. 🙂

Well, I’m so glad to finally formally announce that we have officially settled in here at our new home in California.  Change can be hard, but it’s usually rewarding.  I’ll leave you with two quotes to think about if there is something in your life that needs change but you’re too scared to go for it.

❤️ MH

Your blog is so inspiring. When I read your blog it feels as if your right here next to me giving me advice. I sit here and read how much you guys love California and I can’t wait to go to college there, and live out there. I hope one day I can meet you and ask you for advice in person but until that day keep writing. I’ll always read it.

Wow, you are truly inspiring!!! You make me want to move to Cali even more then I already did haha (I’m from New Zealand but what I want to do as a career I’d be better off in Cali). I’m so happy for you and your family and from what I’ve seen over social media you all seem to be having a blast in Cali!!! I love how supportive you are of Zach and your family, we need more people like you and the other WDW family members in the world. Change is good and if it isn’t then you learn from it :).

I love you Mama Herron <3

You have taken me through our big emotions when we made our big move. It was so difficult and scary to leave our family & friends! But soon the new world we moved to stole our hearts. We live close to a beautiful huge lake, where we enjoy walking, kayaking, swimming, and we are close to the ocean! We love living in the South! The education and employment opportunities greatly improved our lives, and of course, we learned to travel!
Georgia is our home! Home IS where your heart is! ❤️

Well the first thing that jumped out at me when reading your post was “YALL”. Good for you guys taking the plunge. My son and new grand baby moved out there in December so we are frequent visitors to the California sunshine. I agree that there is something therapeutic being there. It was nice meeting you and your hubby in Austin. Stay humble and keep writing. I love to hear (read) other momma thoughts!! And by the way I have a garage full of Rubbermaid containers full of trophies, papers, uniforms, etc. did you get rid of all that stuff too???? 😬

Ohhh no way! I didn’t get rid of any of it! Okay well the spelling tests I did get rid of. But not the uniforms, trophies, or art work!!

Thanks for reading! Yeah…the y’all comes out a lot. It’s the Texas in me, haha!

I know the feeling of change all to well. My mom is deciding if whether or not we should move from California to Minnesota. When I found out, I was mad, but thought it out. I did a pro and con list of why it would be good and why it would be bad. Leaving the place you lived in for so long is difficult. I always thought that when I leave my hometown, it would be for college and not for the reason I am. As of right now tho, we have not made a decision.

I have a few poems/ writing that I would love to share with you.

Just recently, my family has been going through some big changes. One minute; there was a house if 8 people, the next; there is only 4 and a baby. There has been big trials in our lives and I honestly have no idea how we deal with it all. Thank you for this post. Your blog always seems to inspire my one way or another. Sometimes I even go back to reread a post because it’s got just what I need, again, thank you Myta. Have a lovely day 🙂
